Don’t forget the Salsa!

July 23rd, 2010

When I backpack I want the experience to be enjoyable and memorable. I’m certainly not the minimilist type. Usually when I backpack only venture to places that offer some sort of fishing. So included in my backpacking checklist is an extra fishing rod for the hike just in case something goes wrong. It means packing in a nice non-stick frying pan big enough to fry up a trout or two. Fish batter and even fresh veggies are also regularly brought along. So weight really is never a consideration for me on most hikes. However with this taste bud busting menu addition weight isn’t an issue. Its dehydrated salsa by the brand name of Mi Viejita Salsa! Its absolutely delicious and easy to take on the trail. Just add water to the desired amount of salsa and BAM! Having fresh salsa out on the trail or at your bivouac really makes the trip that much more enjoyable. Oh and don’t forget the dehydrated refried beans and flour tortillas!
